I love home in summer. I love that the main street smells like fish and chips. I love that every second car I pass waves and honks. I love the feeling of the hot country sun burning on my bare shoulders as I walk to the shops. I love that there is never more than one person ahead of me at Safeway. I love that the shops close at 12 on a Saturday and the streets become deserted, but the pub is never empty. I love Maccas on a Sunday morning. I love the gossip. I love the short drive to the beach. I love watching the water gently crash as dogs run off their leashes into the great blue. I love coming down that hill in Invy where the ocean fills the horizon out of nowhere. I love watching people have picnics in Rainbow Park. I love gelati and fish and chips.
It takes a month or so of missing this to make me really appreciate it, but I do miss it. Every day.
